The Adjacent Possible Vision Statement (Working Progress 10/11/25)
A space for radical joy, messy magic, and collective becoming.
The Adjacent Possible is a queer-led, sex-positive, and ever-evolving space for creative expression, connection, and celebration. It’s an ephemeral community that comes together to build something fleeting, meaningful, and deeply alive — guided by the Burner principles and shaped by the people who show up.
We gather to make art, dance wildly, collaborate, rest, protest, dream, and dismantle shame. This is a space where people are free to be loud, soft, messy, naked, tender, powerful. We’re not here to fix each other or the world, but to create spaces where people can feel whole, witnessed, and alive.
This is not a permanent institution. It’s protean by design — built to rise and fall with the seasons, the people, the needs of the moment. Each iteration is different. We make decisions collectively with a clear, transparent structure that supports action without replicating top-down systems. Leadership exists to hold space, not to control it.
At its heart, The Project is about radical intimacy — with ourselves, each other, and the temporary worlds we co-create. It’s a space where sex positivity isn’t an add-on, it’s a baseline. We honour boundaries, consent, and personal agency, and we believe joy and erotic freedom are essential parts of liberation. There’s no one way to be here — only a shared commitment to care, communication, and courage.
While The Project centers human connection, it also recognises the importance of rewilding — not as a return to some imagined past, but as a practice of remembering our entanglement with the natural world. We believe that just as people need space to grow freely, land needs space to breathe, regenerate, and surprise us.
We value:
- Creativity as community glue — not as performance, but as shared practice
- Queer joy and collective weirdness over respectability or conformity
- Process over product — the doing matters more than the outcome
- Honest, embodied relationships — built through play, presence, and mutual care
- Access and inclusion — recognizing the barriers people face and actively working to reduce them
The Project is a safe container for experimentation, community building, and personal transformation. It’s a place to try things out, break things down, and build each other up. Sometimes it’s beautiful. Sometimes it’s messy. It’s deeply joyful.
The Project is a refuge for:
- Queer people craving a space where their full selves are not just welcomed but centered
- Artists, makers, and dreamers seeking community and freedom to create
- Activists looking to recharge through joy, rest, and connection
- Anyone drawn to weirdness, wildness, and temporary utopias
We are not here to last forever. We are here to cultivate joy while we do.
